Zucchini on sterriods!

I pulled, tugged and attacked this zucchini from the plant in my front yard.
I'm still not sure who won.
I was only able to eat about half of it before it got all mushy and gross.
-Bon appeti!

C'est la Vie!

Hello fashion lovers, foodies and fellow narcissists
There is LOTS to write about and I have been away from this blog for way too long.
To start out I would like to follow up on some of the topics discussed in my last entry:

1.) Those stick on bras.

Okay, so I did some research (and by research I mean googling to find info about the stick on bras and people's opinion on them), and found out from second hand experiences that these bras are uncomfortable and not very reliable. Apparently they are so tight on the skin that if you are wearing it with a dress and dancing all night that you will sweat which makes the adhesive non-gripy, therefore making the rubber cup fall upon the floor....not good.
I will continue to wear my regular strapless bra.

2.) I got a reply back from H&M regarding Jimmy Choos.

Hello Kate,

Thanks for your interest in H&M!
The Jimmy Choo line that
H&M carried, was a limited time guest designer collaboration in 2009.
The
product sold through very quickly from select H&M stores.
Some of these
select stores may have product left, but it is not guaranteed.

We hope this has been of assistance and we hope that you continue to be
a valued customer.

Best regards
Stephen

Oh, well. C'est La Vie!

Anyways, while I was in Toronto in July I did go to H&M and while there were no more Jimmy Choo merchandise I did find two items that I liked and purchased. One was a black t-shirt with blue, pink and yellow horizontal stripes. The other was a pair of blue rounded sunglasses.

The reason why I love the t-shirt was because it has a classic 80's vintage style to it. I can also wear the shirt a few different ways.

-Off the shoulders (both or just one).

-Belt around the waist

-Neckline scooped down

Here I am wearing it in New York City while enjoying some curry at Curry Lane.
Speaking of New York. The first day in NYC, the boyfriend and I dressed up in nice formal attire to go see a Broadway play (The Lion King). I decided to wear a dress and a new pair of sexy high heels that I had bought at Le Chateau in Toronto. On the way to the show, we were running a bit late so we took a cab. When the amazing show ended we thought it might be nice to have a look around Times Square. After about three minutes of walking I realized the error of ways. I should NOT HAVE worn NEW shoes to walk around a big, busy city.
Especially stilettos shoes. Although to be fair... Charlotte, Kerri and Samantha do it ALL the time!!! Hah I don't watch that show. But, I am blaming those fictional characters for their stupid influence over my fashion sense (or lack there of) at that time.
Anyways, instead of ruining our first day in the Big Apple, heading back to the hotel room and calling it a night we went shopping for a more suitable pair of shoes. To much relief after searching four other stores (mostly touristy shops with knick-knacks and "I Love New York" Tees) and not finding any cute pair of sandals. We walked into a Gap (where I rarely ever shop) and find an affordable pair of purple, comfy sandals in which I swiftly bought, torn off my stilettos and strapped onto my feet. Right in the store. There I was happy again with a new pair of shoes and no more painful rubbing against the back of my heels.
Unfortunately, I had no band aids with me to cover up the ugly lacerations. In the future I will still wear those heels just not if I am walking anywhere, or maybe I can find something that can stick to the back of my foot so the shoe won't tear at my skin.

Live and learn. :0)

Here is a photo of those fab-u-lous shoes:

By the by the Toronto and New York trip was fantastic!
Maybe I'll write more about it in my next blog post but for now I am going to continue now and talk about food and a bit about music.

A co-work and friend of mine threw a dinner party and a live private concert in his back yard. The food was Indian. From what I can remember he made:

~Papadums
~Onion Bhajis (fried onion fritters with date chutney)
~Mewa Pulao (basmati rice with dried fruits, nuts and spices)
~Chapatis (traditional bread)
~Murg Makhani (classic butter chicken)
~Aloo Gobi (potato and cauliflower curry with cucumber raita)
~Banana-Coconut Rice Pudding

I'd say that the butter chicken was my favorite. The meat was so tender.
My second favorite was the basmati rice. I've never had rice with fruit in in before, and it was delicious. I even liked the desert which had a powerful coconut flavor and brown sugar bananas on top. I usually don't like rice pudding but it was wonderful.

The musical guest was a folk singer from Manitoba by the name of Del Barber.
A handsome, young guy with a gentle but slightly twangy singing voice.
He entertained the 20 or so audience not only with music but also with true stories of jokes from his life and told us the meanings of certain songs.
He played acoustically and sung about eight songs with memorable lyrics such as:

"History, love and desire. They're playing poker, Texas Style. With cards printed right off my chest."
-From a song called Miles and Years.

He even has a song about Thunder Bay!
I bought both of his two c.ds. Which are titled:
Love Songs for the Next 20 (which is my favorite so far).
and
Where the City Ends.

Well, it's taken me about three hours to write this entry, so I better stop for now before I get annoyed and bored.

Here is my parting wisdom:
Remember ladies, to always bring either an extra pair of shoes or some band aids the next time you wear your new heels out!

Love Always, Kate.

Nothin' wrong with being just a little bit vain, We need a little pretty cuz this country's insane.

Hello, fashion lovers, foodies and fellow narcissits.

To start off, the title of my first official blog (with a purpose) is from Lady Gaga's song called Vanity. It was my first time hearing it just now because it's not on any of her c.ds. Well, it's not on "Fame." My friend Adric is allowing me to listen to all of Gaga's (unreleased) songs off his network. I'm loving it. Lady Gaga is crazy, and amazingly fun.

This post will feature a recipe, a few questions and some "insight" into some of my favorite things. -cut- (to me singing that song from The Sound of Music)...you know the one. ;)

Alright. #1 Fashion:

I have a question for you gals..sorry guys..I don't think you can answer this one.

Have you ever worn those stick on bras?

Those bras that are made out of rubber and you apply them with just a bit of water and some sort of adhesive.

Apparently, they keep everything in place with the added bonus of no showing bra strap.

Well, I have never tried them and I am curious if any of you have. If you have please let me know.

Did they work well? Were they comfortable?

On a different note. I love Jimmy Choo shoes. I think they are extremely sexy, and unique looking. But of course I would never pay around $400 for a pair. Unless, I won the lottery which is very unlikely!

But recently I was surprised and struck with glee that Jimmy Choo shoes and accessories, as well as clothing are now being sold at (a store I love) H&M for discounted prices. I realize that this is somewhat old news..but it's "new" news to ME.

Here is a video, if you are interested:

Here's a link to some of the items sold (in NY):

http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/threadny/THREAD-Photos-Jimmy-Choo-for-HM-60742717.html

When I travel to Toronto and New York in July, I will let you know if and what I bought!

I have tried to research this. To get more information but for some reason it is very difficult to find. I want to know if they get new items every season from J.C and how long they will be selling the brand. But I had no luck. Perhaps I will e-mail the company....

"Hello. First I want to say I love H&M. Thank-you for taking the time to answer a few questions I have about the Jimmy Choo collection. I was wondering,
Does Canada sell the collection, if so is it there for only a limited time? Also, does Jimmy Choo for H&M come out with a different collection every season?
Thanks again, from a dedicated and curious shopper."

Sent! I will inform you all in my next blog post if I get a response.

That is it for the fashion segment. Now, on to food.

Yesterday, I made a vegetarian curry.

I love spicy food, so curry is prefect. Also, you can make it with so my different ingredients.

I did not use a recipe for this but I can guess-timate one if you feel like making it.

1 green pepper

1 red pepper

1/5 yellow onion

2.5 TBS of powdered curry

1 TBS sambal oelek chili paste (you can add more depending on how spicy you like it)

1 TBS of fresh or powder ginger

Half TBS of garlic salt or 1 clove fresh

pinch of pepper

Half a can of coconut milk

Half a cup of vegetable stock (tomato cocktail)

Half a cup of vegetable cocktail

3 TBS chopped Cilantro

1.5 cups Rice

Julienne the peppers and onions (into small strips) then

saute the peppers in a medium sized pot with a couple Tablespoons of oil, for about 2 minutes then add the onions.

Add the spices.

Then add the veg stock, veg cocktail, coconut milk.

Cook the rice separately.

After the rice is done. Put a layer of rice in a bowl and spoon the curry on top and garnish with cilantro.

Well. That is it for now people.

Until next time: sayonara!

Introduction!

Hello, fashion lovers, foodies and fellow narcissits.

Please, let me tell you a little about myself: My name is Kate!
I am just an average small town girl whom has many passions and likes, but no obvious talent.
I am creating my first blog to showcase and chronicle all the things I find interesting, tasty and inspiring. I will post photos, "wisdom", recipes, and tell you all what is on my random mind.

My number 1 in the 4 "fs" is fashion.

I hear from many people that live in the same town as I do, that our town is behind in the fashion world. This doesn't bother me too much, and I don't totally agree with this.

First, we might be a bit behind in the fashion world for one reason.
One reason might be because we only have one major mall here (it has one floor and offers 102 stores which include the book stores, stationery stores and eateries), the independent stores that do sell brand names and hard to find items are usually too expensive for our culture.

Don't get me wrong!

There are many fashionable people walking these streets and in the mall. I also don't believe that everyone should be inclusively into all the trends. I think people need to be more unique and creative instead. With my blog I intend to post some trends, vintage finds, inspiration from other sources, and photos from my very own closet as well.

My number 2 of the 4 "fs" is ummmmm foooood!

I do have some credentials for this topic. I am a 2006 graduate of the Culinary Management Program, and I have worked in various restaurants. As, you can tell I love to cook, try new recipes and I'm always trying to create something new and delicious. And as much as I love my boyfriend, I have to find recipes that satisfy my omnivorous diet, while making vegetarian friendly meals for him. We been living together for about 9 months now, and there are no hunger pains or big chunks of meat missing from my boyfriends body...yet.

Number 3 of the 4 "fs" is Friends.

Hell, who doesn't have a pal, a buddy, a b.f.f or an entourage?
If you don't have any or either, I encourage you to go get some right now!
...Oh wait..after you finish reading my blog.
On my blog I will dish on some of the crazy shenanigans that my friends and I get into.

Lastly, Number 4 is Favorites.

My favorites to be exact! This will be a combination of all four and perhaps even things that are not in the 4"fs"..shocking I know!

My goal is to maybe inspire some of you, and I'd like to give feedback as well as get feedback on different outfits, recipes, restaurants, and shops.
I hope after reading my first blog entry that you will stick with me and encourage me to keep writing. Please introduce yourself as well. I want to meet ya'll!

Until next time: rock n' roll.
